National Route 42 of the National Cycle Network runs from Chepstow and then north through Abergavenny to join National Route 8 at Glasbury with the option of passing through Hay-on-Wye.

The Chepstow to Glasbury section of Route 42 forms part of the fantastic theÌýLon Las CymruÌýroute.ÌýThere are a few challenging climbs on thisÌýroute but you are rewarded with some fantastic scenery and awe-inspiring views.

Following the route out of Chepstow, the first section of the ride is on quiet roads and takes you through some lovely woodland before arriving at Usk.

The route then follows the River Usk towards Abergavenny on more country roads. At Abergavenny, you leave the river behind and head into the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park alongÌýquiet country lanes into the beautiful Vale of Ewyas, where it passes close to the ruins of the fabulous Llanthony Priory.

The route then heads to the hamlet of Capel-y-ffin, where it climbsÌýGospel Pass 542m (1,778ft) with spectacular views over the Wye Valley. From here, the trail drops into the Valley, where it links with National Cycle Route 8 at Glasbury.

There isÌýa small loop at the top of Route 42 providing links to Hay-on-Wye which is well worth a visit.

Other things to see and do along the route include and At the foot of the Black Mountains, this is a fantastic landmark, and the Llanthony Priory Hotel serves food.ÌýÌý
